BEEN STELLAR: KING TUT’S, GLASGOW

New York’s Been Stellar brought their signature energy and NYC charm to King Tut’s in Glasgow, performing to a sold-out crowd packed into the iconic venue.

Fresh off the release of “Scream from New York, NY,” the band delivered a powerful set that cemented their growing reputation as one of the most exciting names on the indie rock scene.

Been Stellar shared the spotlight with the rising Irish alt-indie/folk band Cardinals. Hailing from Cork, they captivated the audience with their distinctive blend of modern indie sounds and traditional Irish influences. Performing tracks from their self-titled EP “Cardinals,” the standout moment came with “Twist and Turn.” The song’s stripped-back opening and lead singer Euan Manning’s intimate vocals drew the crowd in before the chorus hit with all the makings of a future indie classic. The band balanced gentle, sensitive melodies with heavier undertones, as showcased on “Roseland,” a track that feels destined for broader recognition. With their heartfelt sound and undeniable charm, it seems only a matter of time before Cardinals break into a wider audience.

When Been Stellar took the stage, the energy reached a new level. Frontman Sam Slocum poured every ounce of passion into his performance, effortlessly shifting between smooth and raucous, screaming vocals. His tambourine became an extension of himself, accentuating the music with dynamic percussion. Guitarist Skylar Knapp delivered a standout performance, particularly during the climactic second half of “Scream from New York, NY,” where his playing truly shone. Fan favorites “Sweet” and “Kids, 1995” had the crowd singing along, nearly drowning out the band with their enthusiasm. Each member of the band was fully immersed in the moment, creating a raw and magnetic performance that connected with everyone in the room.

With their casual, slacker-chic style and laid-back demeanour, Been Stellar exude authenticity. They’re not trying to fit a mould or chase fame—they’re simply themselves, and it’s this refreshing honesty that makes them so captivating. Their music is unfiltered, straight from the heart, resonating deeply with those who seek genuine artistry and soul in their music.

For anyone craving raw emotion and authenticity in their indie rock, Been Stellar is a must-hear band. This night at King Tut’s was a testament to their talent.
