ROYAL BLOOD: AO ARENA, MANCHESTER

Royal Blood prove that there’s more to their game than pedal board wizardry at Manchester’s AO Arena.

Opening up the night were The Amazons. From Reading the indie outfit came out swinging with the catchy riffs and hard guitar lines of Black Magic getting us ready for what was to come with Royal Blood.

Royal Blood, touring the new release of their 2021 album Typhoons, the band from Worthing proved that they can fill an arena with just the two of them, Mike Kerr’s famed abilities on the bass and a loop pedal and Ben’s credentials to back it up on the drum kit.

The energy that the duo put into their music goes a long way. The highlights of the night were the classic Royal Blood signature track, Out of the Black and the short piano ballad All we have is now but as per with any Royal Blood gig, nothing gets the crowd going like the crescendo of Loose Change and nothing prepares you for that immense bassline drop and witnessing the ensuing madness as pockets of mosh pits open up. Unquestionably electrifying.

They debuted a new song Honeybrains,  which has the classic riffage of their older work but feels fresh and signals an exciting new chapter and should see a release date in the near future.

On a night of high octane energy it was a performance that left many physically drained but you still left wanting more.
