THE INTERRUPTERS: BARROWLANDS, GLASGOW

Tonight, legendary Glasgow music venue, The Barrowlands, will play host to one of America’s hottest bands, The Interrupters! Fronted by Aimee Interrupter, the Los Angeles Ska-tastic band are currently touring the U.K. and tonight Glasgow is getting the treatment!

They say good things come in threes and tonight is testament to that with two outstanding support acts for The Interrupters. First on the stage are Bar Stool Preachers. This is one band to keep your eyes on as they are going from strength to strength. Recently they played to a 35,000 strong crowd in Germany with ‘Die Toten Hosen’. The Brighton boys absolutely nailed it at Glasgow Barrowlands. Both Interrupters and BSP fans will know the song ‘Choose My Friends’ from their album ‘Grazie Governo’ where T.J and Aimee both did tit- for- tat vocals on. Their dual collaboration on this track is brilliant and a real stand out song! BSP opened with this number and raised the roof! They put on an energetic performance and played other killer hits such as ‘Trickledown’ and for their finale, their self- titled song ‘Bar Stool Preacher’, one of my favourites! Bungle’s bass is epic in this song! All the lads played like there was no tomorrow and the performance would have gleamed the band a great deal of new fans!

A slight drop in gear, after the high octain performance of BSP we were treated to The Skints. Their slower more old school classic Reggie style reverberated across the Barras! The music was like a love-drug as it took its effect on people. The smiles got wider and the skanking got slower. The musicianship was absolutely flawless. The skillset was superb and the sound engineer’s mix that hit the crowd was spot on. The Skints’ performance was brilliant although hard to see at times due to the subdued lighting and neon blue and violet haze.

The Interrupters waked on stage to enormous applause. As the band kicked in with their first number, Aimee walked on stage and the crowd went from 10 to 11! Aimee looked genuinely pleased to be on stage and her smile was infectious. Their first number ‘Take Back the Power’ went off like a sonic-sound-bomb! The crowd went wild! Hit after hit the band powered through their songs like a runaway train with no breaks, right up until the end where ‘She’s Kerosine’ ended the performance. This band are not ‘shoe watchers when they play, they engage and communicate with every inch of their body and fibre of their being! Bassist, Justin would give Anti-Flag’s Chris No2 a run for his money with his high jumps! That’s what gig-goers want, a band who are like jumping beans, yet don’t drop notes! The ability to put on such an energetic show while being note and timing perfect is commendable and oh, how the Interrupters did this!
