THE VIEW: O2 ACADEMY, GLASGOW

It’s the first night of The View’s run of sold out shows at Glasgow’s O2 Academy and first on the bill is Daytime TV who came with a solid set of tunes to get the crowd warmed up for The View later on in the night.

The group of lads came with strong vocals and great guitar riffs as the crowd began to fill the room. By the end of their set the room was fuller and showing the boys appreciation with their cheers.

After a short interval the crowd were revved up and ready to enjoy the set of Red Rum Club who are a band from Liverpool. They produced a set of good tunes that the crowd sang and danced too, along with a mixture of instruments that pieced together their brilliant melodies. The band is full of energy, especially the lead vocalist and the crowd loved it, matching his energy and showing them how good Glasgow crowds are with the lead vocalist beaming “Glasgow, this place has a special place in my heart”.

The room is now packed full of a crowd waiting in anticipation and ready for The View to take the stage. A few flying cups and escorts out later, the lights went dark and the intro began as the crowd roared for The View.

Flashes of red lights flickered the stage and on came The View ready to produce an amazing set of tunes for the first of 4 sold out shows. From the get-go The View’s stage energy was amazing, the crowd matching it jumping around having a good time. Some songs were completely overtaken by the voices of the crowd singing back in unison. Halfway through the set as the band go quiet while they sort out their guitars, the crowd began to chant “The View, The View, The View are on fire”.

After a mixture of songs from each of their albums, lead vocalist Kyle Falconer instigated a “Here We Go” chant which is a well-loved chant in a Glasgow crowd, before getting into their song Sunday. Next up came along well loved ‘Same Jeans’ as they joked “this is an old tune, hope you like it” before the intro began and the crowd roared, filling the room with the sound of their singing and the front of the crowd participating in an energy filled mosh pit. As the night drew to an end it was time for the encore which consisted of Superstar Tradesmen and Shock Horror.

It’s been quite a while since The View last played live but you could never tell, their stage presence and singing were fantastic. They were full of energy for the full set along with the crowd who were clearly having a great time as they danced and sang along with barely any phones in sight which can be a rare sight these days.
